Hi Folks,

I really don’t like to put prices up, especially at the moment, but as of the 1st of April we have some increased costs that must be met and so I’ve taken the decision to raise the price of the Daily Play Pass. As a consequence this has the knock on effect of raising the price of events but, as I’ll detail below, only some events will be effected.

So the headline here is that the DPP will go up to £6 (£3 for concessions) from the 1st of April. It’s been 18mths since we last raised the price and I can assure you that I don’t do this lightly without looking at the numbers.

This price rise will only effect very specific events. These are the non-competitive events (more details on why this is and how much they will go up below). So the cost of Rocket Con, Adventurers’ League, Young Adventurers’ League, Mystery Quest and Meeple Quest in 2025 (this year’s is unaffected) will all increase.

You don’t really need to read this bit as it explains why only certain events are affected but for those that are interested… here goes. Weirdly, VAT is only applied to non-competitive events. I don’t know why but I suspect it is something to do with sport. Either way, events where people play against each other in some form cost 20% less than those that don’t. Put a different way. If we charge £5 for a Commander event and £5 for Adventurers’ League, the store will get £5 for Commander but only £4.16 from Adventurers’ League. The Daily Play Pass is a bit weird as it is seen as an ‘entrance’ fee (entrance to a place not an event) so is also taxed at 20%. What we are doing as of the 1st of Apr is charge the same for all events but apply the VAT to that if necessary. That way the shop make’s the same amount of money running all of it’s events whether they are taxed or not.

The bottom line is that doing this raises enough money to cover our increased costs but it also seemed fair to put all events on an equal footing. Basically this means that the cost of all non-competitive events will be going up by 20%. This means that the Daily Play Pass will increase to £6 (£3 concessions) and the price for roleplaying activities such as Adventurers’ League will go up to £10.80.

It’s also likely the price for other workshops etc that we run, like the GM Workshop or painting day will also increase but as we set these on an event by event basis it’s difficult to set a price on those at this time.

Hopefully these prices still represent good value for money to you all and I hope you understand that we don’t do these things lightly.

MeepleQuest is back for 2024

We love our Roleplay Games here at the Mug and Meeple and we’ve got another whole weekend of them coming up. MeepleQuest returns over the weekend of the 23rd and 24th of March.

What Is MeepleQuest?

Glad you asked. MeepleQuest is the sister event to RocketCon. A weekend where we turn the Mug and Meeple over to Role Play games of all types. Where we have Adventurer’s League as a pathway for new players into the Dungeons & Dragons Community, RocketCon and MeepleQuest do the same for other games. In past years we’ve played Star Wars and we’ve played Vampire: The Masquerade. We’ve gone Big Foot hunting in Monster of the Week and been swashbuckling pirates in 7th Sea. We’ve gone on adventures in Middle Earth in The One Ring and piloted giant battlemechs in Mechwarrior. We’ve had Dread using Jenga as a mechanic and home-brew adventures using Lego. And everyone will remember the time Glen’s party had to fight against a historically inspired, blue porcupine.

MeepleQuest Needs You! Yes You!

It’s the Mug and Meeple community who make our events the best they can be, so we’re putting out a call for any Games Masters, Game Runners, or storytellers who want to run a one-off game over the weekend.

There really is nothing better than getting together with new friends and old to save the world or unleash chaos around the table. But sometimes it isn’t a dark lord or a terrible monster from the depths that stymies the party; just getting the party together can be a battle. This is where MeepleQuest can help you when you help us. A one-off session can be a fantastic opportunity for you to advertise a campaign to prospective players. It could be just the platform you need to introduce a new world to players in a friendly setting with all the table space, dice, and flapjacks you could need.

We are always immensely grateful to any Games Masters and Storytellers who run games for us. Being a GM is akin to being a writer, director, and actor rolled into one (with a healthy dash of expert cat herder on top) and we would love to help you get your games going in any way we can. Do you need terrain and scenery to give your table real visual impact? We have a wide selection that can be borrowed. Do you need maps, character sheets, or in-character documents printed out? We’ve got you covered. Have an idea for props that you’d like to give out during your adventure? You have no idea how much weird and wonderful stuff the Meeple Minions have managed to amass over the years. Perhaps you want a second pair of eyes to give your adventure a quick once over. Then come down for a coffee and a chat and bounce some ideas off of us.

This is part two of our ongoing saga… THE PROMOPOCALYPE!!! And in this post we focus on Friday Night Magic.

FNM Edition

The PROMOPOCALYPSE CONTINUES as we move into Murders at Karlov Manor Season and begins on the launch day or… Open House… as WotC are calling it. If you attend that event to play either Commander or Draft then you will receive a copy of Underworld Connections. If you bring-a-friend that’s new to Magic, both of you will receive a second copy plus this seasons new Bring-a_Friend Promo which is Cultivate! This last promo will be available as standard throughout the season.

BUT THERE’S MORE! If you draft at any point during Murders at Karlov Manor season (inc. Launch Weekend) then you can have an exclusive Draft Promo. These are Retro Frame Arcane Signet, Commander’s Sphere, and Chaos Warp. You can choose one of these for each draft that you participate in. These are going to replace the promo pack giveaway as we have released we don’t have enough to sustain giving these away for drafts.

There is also something called Standard Showdown that is running over the Karlov Manor season but due to time constraints in the shop we won’t be running it. However, the promos to support that season will be converted into EXTRA DRAFT PROMO giveaways. They are 5 foil basic lands plus Dragon’s Servant and Lavinia, Foil to Conspiracy. You can choose one of these instead of one of the cards above.

As you know, we announced recently that all players playing in a Standard or Pioneer constructed event at FNM would receive a guaranteed Promo pack. Well we are adding to that giveaway. Magic have sent us Chibi Planeswalker Keyrings to giveaway and you can have one if you play in one of our competitive constructed format events. There are only 30 of these so they will go to the first 30 players in one of those events. And to be clear, these are Pre-Compleated Planeswalkers so all are pretty cute.

What do I need to do to get these sweet promos?

Firstly, please ask for them. It is very easy to overlook giving these out so please remind us politely. Secondly, to get any of these promos, you must be registered in Eventlink using Magic Companion for the event you wish to take part in. We really need those numbers so this is more important than ever. But this is not the end of the PROMOPOCALYPSE!!!! Coming soon I will explain how you can get your hand on our various event promos over the rest of the Karlov Manor Season.
